Academic courses offered by NIT Silchar

National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar is one of premier engineering institutes of India. The institute was formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Silchar and was established in 1967 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Assam. The college started its classes in 1977 and presently offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various branches of engineering. In 2002, the institute was accorded the status of Deemed University and was renamed as National Institute of Technology, Silchar.

Academic courses offered by NIT Silchar:

B.Tech: NIT Silchar offers 4-year B.Tech program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Fifty per cent seats in B.Tech programs are reserved for students from Assam. Admissions to B.Tech programs are made on the basis of performance in AIEEE conducted by CBSE.

M.Tech: NIT Silchar offers 2-year M.Tech programs in Civil Engineering ( Water Resources Engineering), Electrical Engineering (Power and Energy Systems Engineering) and Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Engineering). Admissions to M.Tech programs are made on the basis of candidates' performance in GATE. NIT Silchar offers Doctoral programme leading to Ph.D. in all Departments except Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Humanities.
